Strengthen Infrastructure
Invest
Investment in hardware for computational research is essential. It requires advanced infrastructure for high-performance computing, data processing, and customized equipment for specific research questions in various focus areas.
Encouraging computational research goes hand in hand with investment in this infrastructure. While there is still a need for national and international Tier 0 and 1 supercomputers, we recommend also investing in strengthening regional Tier 2 infrastructure in the Netherlands, which is currently underutilized.

Importance of software
In addition, it is critical to identify and leverage software packages and cost-effective licenses. The optimization of software, algorithms and code is very important in computational science, and its effective use significantly improves the efficiency of the field.
Energy-efficient computing
Another challenge is promoting energy-efficient computing. This includes selecting energy-efficient processors when investing in Tier 2 infrastructure, integrating energy efficiency into software and algorithm choices, as well as promoting energy-conscious computing skills through enhanced education.
