On October 15, the Stichting Computational Science NL officially came into being, marking a significant milestone for computational science in the Netherlands. This newly established foundation will serve as the legal entity and drive the activities of the Computational Science NL platform, aiming to strengthen the Dutch computational science knowledge and innovation ecosystem and drive future strategic investments in research, infrastructure, and human capital.
The official launch was attended by Johan Mentink (Radboud University), Bianca Giovanardi (TU Delft), and Linn Leppert (University of Twente), who will serve as chair, secretary, and treasurer of the foundation’s board of directors, respectively. Along with Alfons Hoekstra (University of Amsterdam), Mark Roest (VORTech), and Wil Schilders (TU Eindhoven) they are also part of the newly established Computational Science NL Strategy Board, which is the decision-making body of the foundation. CWI, the NWO institute for research in theoretical computer science and mathematics, will serve as the foundation’s seat.
The Computational Science NL platform is built upon and implements a roadmap outlined in the National Agenda for Computational Science, prepared by a coalition of Dutch scientists and industry representatives and presented to the Ministry of Economic Affairs and Climate Policy (EZK) in 2022. This agenda highlights the critical role of computational models and simulations to address societal challenges and achieving a sustainable future.
With the establishment of this new legal entity, Computational Science NL is looking forward to continue engaging with the Dutch computational science community and drive the implementation of the National Agenda forward. Stay tuned for some exciting events in 2025!
