We look back at a very sucessful Dutch Computational Science Day (DUCOMS) 2024, which brought together nearly 200 computational science professionals from different sectors, scientific disciplines, and career levels. This event underscores once again the growing importance of computational science in the Netherlands, as well as its potential in tackling complex, multidisciplinary questions.

The day featured a range of keynote presentations showcasing applications harnessing the power of computational science, including the study of complex living systems, water management through global and local data and models, the prediction and optimisation of engineering systems, quantum chemistry calculations, and industrial digital twins.

In addition to the plenary session, parallel tracks, allowed participants to delve deeper into the focus areas of the National Agenda for Computational Science: Machine learning, data-driven methods, multiscale modelling and simulation, uncertainty analysis, and energy-efficient computing. The day also featured a poster session, serving as a further platform for researchers to showcase their work, as well as plenty of time reserved for networking to create new connections and partnerships.

For the first time, this year’s DUCOMS also featured a dedicated industry session, focusing on the role of the Computational Science NL platform in supporting and engaging with industry stakeholders. This session provided a valuable setting for industry professionals to discuss their needs, to be picked up and addressed by Computational Science NL in future activities.

DUCOMS 2024 has surely set a high bar for future DUCOMS editions! We would like to thank all participants for contributing to this unforgettable day, and can’t wait to see them and you at DUCOMS 2025. Stay tuned for updates on the date and location of DUCOMS 2025 by signing up for the Computational Science newsletter or following Computational Science NL’s website and LinkedIn account.
